In most houses, loggias began to function as additional rooms. Curtains are a very important element for creating a cozy interior. The hostesses treat the decor of the windows with special trepidation, because in this room they occupy almost the entire part of the wall.
Peculiarities
Curtains for loggias have a number of features, since the window openings that they have to close differ significantly from those in other rooms:
- On loggias it is very important that the curtains do not interfere with the frequent opening and closing of windows.
- It is advisable to stop your choice on models with attachment to the frame. Then the curtains do not take up space, which is so important for a small loggia.
- The small space of the room does not allow much to decorate the interior, therefore, the main decorative function is assigned to the curtains. At the same time, they should be no-frills, so as not to take up extra space and not "burden" the interior.
- If the loggia is located on the north side of the house, then it is better to curtain the windows with a fabric of warm shades, and if from the south, then the curtains should be cold so that the room does not heat up.
- Curtains on the loggia and in the next room or kitchen should be combined in style and color.
Models, their pros and cons
Today, specialized stores offer a wide selection of different curtains for windows on loggias. Each model has its own advantages and characteristics.
Your choice should be stopped on those curtains that will be in harmony with other interior elements, and also correspond to the purpose of the room.
Roller blinds
This type of curtain is convenient due to the fact that their length can be adjusted as needed - an undoubted advantage for non-standard window openings . They consist of a tight piece of fabric that is wound around a roller.
Rolled curtains are suitable for those rooms in which the degree of illumination is very important. Such a model is able to provide both maximum light access and complete protection from the sun. This feature depends not only on the density of the fabric, but also on the model.
A type of roller blinds is the "day-night" model . The main part of the structure consists of strips of transparent and opaque fabric, which can be combined or alternated, while adjusting the level of illumination.
Roman curtains
When unfolded, they fit snugly against the window, which is important for a small loggia space. To allow sunlight to enter the room, the curtains are raised from below and fixed. In this position, they resemble an airy drapery. Roman shades can be combined with other types of curtains.
There are a lot of variations on the theme of Roman blinds, since this type of construction allows the use of fabric of any density and color. Models of Roman blinds made of a plain light translucent fabric or dense material with a small flower can be radically different from each other.
For this reason, this type of curtain can be used in any interior.
Blinds
There are two types of blinds: horizontal, vertical. Both those and others can be used on the windows of the loggia.
Horizontal
In terms of their advantages, they are similar to Roman blinds. They are also fixed on the sash, which eliminates the inconvenience of opening and closing, and does not take up unnecessary space. Bamboo and wooden horizontal blinds are coated with a special agent that repels dust.
They can be used in a duet with curtains, which will be combined with the interior of the adjacent room.
Vertical
Less popular (compared to horizontal ones) because they take up more space. Most often they are used on loggias, where there is no need to often open and close windows.
Pleated blinds
In appearance, they resemble horizontal blinds, only the pleated is made not of separate horizontal parts, but of corrugated fabric. Regulated, like their other "brothers", with a chain or cord.
There are various designs that allow them to be attached to non-standard windows: triangular, semicircular or trapezoidal.
Austrian and French
Such curtains look very nice and airy (despite the use of a lot of fabric) . They are sewn from a single piece of fabric, laced lengthwise in several places. With the help of lacing, the length of the curtains is adjusted and a beautiful drapery is created.
As a rule, Austrian curtains are made of tulle, while French curtains are made of silk with a floral pattern. Such curtains are often complemented with various decorative finishes in the form of fringes, braids or bows.
They look best on windows in long, spacious balconies.
Curtains and curtains
Do not forget about classic curtains and curtains. To facilitate access to the windows, the curtains can be assembled using lambrequins. They will not only allow sunlight to penetrate, but will also perform an important decorative function.
For windows that occupy almost the entire height of the wall, curtains are the most successful type of curtains.
Colors and prints
When choosing curtains for a loggia, it is advisable to first of all consider light (or even transparent) models. Pastel shades of olive, peach or beige are perfect.
On the windows of the loggia, curtains with a floral print will look very good (especially if it is a bright pattern on a light background) . The style and color scheme of curtains should correspond to the interior - both the loggia itself and the room to which it adjoins.
Selection Tips
When choosing curtains for a loggia, several factors should be considered:
- The purpose of the room. In every house, a loggia can perform different functions - from an additional utility room to a study.
- Square. Bulky curtains are not at all suitable for a small room. As a rule, a loggia is a small space where every centimeter is important.
- Illumination degree. It is best if the curtains on the loggia let in daylight as much as possible. If the room is adjacent to the bedroom, direct sunlight enters the windows, then the curtains should provide comfort.
- General style of the house. The interior of the loggia should not stand out from the general stylistic orientation of the interior decoration of other rooms. It is important that the curtains are a decoration of the room, but do not attract too much attention to themselves.
How to do it yourself?
Sometimes making curtains with your own hands is the only right decision if the loggia has non-standard windows or an original interior.
The easiest to sew at home are Roman blinds. For them you will need:
- dense fabric;
- wooden slats for folds;
- metal rings;
- bar for the bottom of the curtains;
- cord (as two lengths and one width of future curtains);
- Velcro across the width of the product.
The piece of fabric for Roman blinds should be equal to the area of the windows, plus 2 cm at each edge for the seams. First, you need to cut it out and sew the pockets for the slats. Then mark the folds with chalk or pins, sew the edges. After that, you need to sew on one part of the Velcro, bend the bottom edge and sew with a double stitch.
When the base fabric is prepared, the weight bar and slats can be inserted. Rings are threaded along the upper edge through which the cord is pulled. It turns out a real Roman blind that can be attached to the window sashes.
Examples of beautiful solutions
French curtains in the Provence style look very cozy - with a small floral print and decor along the bottom edge. Let the curtains occupy the top third of the window, while the rest of it will be adjustable, pleated blinds in a light shade.
This combination of curtains will look great on wooden windows with frequent partitions.
Bamboo blinds are suitable for any interior. They refract direct sunlight, so that the room is filled with soft, pleasant light.
Solid roller blinds can be combined with airy tulle with an interesting pattern. In this case, the tulle will take over the decorative function, and the fabric of the roller blinds will protect from bright sunlight. Vertical striped Roman blinds will cheer you up. They will fit into both bright and laconic interiors.
You can combine different types of curtains made in similar colors. For example, you can attach curtains to the full length of a window opening with two contrasting colors.
