I want to arrange my home so that the design looks interesting, beautiful and original. And there are many ways to do this. For example, to decorate a wall or ceiling, you can use the technology of creating a bas-relief in the form of trees.
What is required?
To start work on the manufacture of the bas-relief, you need to stock up on all the necessary materials and tools.
- The most important material is the finishing gypsum plaster . In stores, it is presented in a wide variety, and you can choose any option. Some prefer products under the name Knauf Uniflot, others prefer Fugen, others prefer Acryl Putz. All formulations are equally well suited for work, it is already a matter of taste and price.
- It will take special impregnation , since the plaster structure is rather heavy. Good adhesion to the surface must be ensured so that all this does not collapse over time.
- You also need to stock up composition for finishing to make the surface even and smooth.
- After that, you can already apply paint , according to the intended plot and the general color concept of the room.
Separately, it should be said about the tools
- For applying mortar to the surface, leveling, creating a shallow relief you will need a stainless steel trowel .
- A plastic trowel will also be needed . It is indispensable for creating deep or extended relief.
- Putty knife is needed in order to apply the solution to the trowel, remove excess, and sometimes apply to the wall, if a thick layer is required beforehand.
- Will come in handy and palette knife , which are small spatulas for working out smaller details.
- Sculptural stacks can be purchased if you intend to reproduce a complex plot with many small details, and in general you do not plan to stop at just one panel.
- There are a few more devices , which may not be obligatory, but they always help the masters when creating their wall masterpieces. These include a medical scalpel (for more accurate cuts), woodcarving chisels (do great with fresh plaster), a pastry syringe (very convenient when adding a small portion of material).
How to do it yourself?
For beginners, it is best to choose not too complicated paintings and plots. And in this case, wood is a good choice. Such a bas-relief can be placed on the wall. It can be a large spreading tree or some of its branches.
If you plan to use the ceiling, then thin branches with foliage will look more elegant and appropriate there.
The first step will be wall treatment . The surface must be absolutely flat and clean. When the wall is completely dry, it should be primed for better adhesion and then proceed to the work itself.
For beginners, the best option would be not to use a large canvas at once, but choose a small part of the wall or ceiling and place the tree there . It is even better to build a frame for the first experiment, place a picture of plaster on it, which can be outweighed. This will allow the beginner to practice, and in case of failure, the wall will not be damaged.
Before work, you need to prepare a drawing. Print your favorite or draw on a sheet, and then follow this template.
The next stage is knead the mixture . All instructions are on the packaging. It should be thick, in no case spread, resemble a paste in consistency.
Then you can go to create the tree itself … First, the drawing with a simple pencil must be reproduced on the wall. If you are not confident in your artistic abilities, there is always the option to use a ready-made template. To do this, it is enough to attach it to the wall with masking tape, fill the slots with paste, and remove the template after drying.
While the plaster is still wet, some inaccuracies can be corrected . After complete drying, cover with finishing solution and then paint.
