A motor pump is a mechanism for pumping liquids. Unlike an electric hydraulic pump, the pump is driven by an internal combustion engine.

Appointment

Pumping devices are usually used for irrigation of large areas, extinguishing fires, or for pumping out flooded basements and sewage pits. In addition, pumps are used to deliver fluid over various distances.

These devices have a number of positive qualities, for example:

  • motor pumps are capable of performing a fairly extensive amount of work;
  • the units are lightweight and lightweight;
  • devices are reliable and durable;
  • the device is easy to operate and does not require special skills in maintenance;
  • transportation of the unit will not cause trouble, since the motor pump is sufficiently mobile.

There are several types of motor pumps. First of all, they can be divided according to the type of engine.

  • Diesel pumps , as a rule, refer to professional devices with very high power. Such devices can easily tolerate long-term and continuous operation. The types of materials that the unit can pump start with ordinary water and end with thick and highly contaminated liquids. Most often, such devices are used in industrial facilities and in agriculture. The main advantage of the diesel pump is its low fuel consumption.
  • Gasoline powered motor pumps , are considered ideal for use in the household or in the country. These devices are much cheaper than diesel ones and are compact in size. Devices of this type are highly efficient and applicable to different types of fluids. However, there are also disadvantages - this is a short period of service.
  • Electrical pumps are not that popular. These units are mainly used where it is forbidden to use gasoline or diesel engines. For example, it can be a hangar, cave or garage.

In addition, all motor pumps are divided according to the type of pumped liquid

  • Devices for pumping clean water have a low productivity - up to about 8 m³ / hour. The device has a small mass and dimensions, which makes it more like an analogue of a domestic submersible pump. A similar unit is often used in suburban areas where there is no electricity connection.
  • Dirty water pumps are distinguished by high throughput and performance. This device is capable of passing through liquid dirty material with debris particles up to 2.5 cm in size. The amount of pumped material is approximately 130 m³ / hour at a liquid rise level of up to 35 m.
  • Fire or high-pressure motor pumps does not at all refer to the equipment of fire fighters. This term denotes hydraulic pumps capable of developing a powerful head of the supplied fluid without losing their performance. Usually, such units are needed to transfer water over decent distances. In addition, this device can supply liquid to a height of more than 65 m.

The choice of such a pump for use in a subsidiary farm will be the best option in cases where the water source is far from the summer cottage. Of course, in extreme situations, this device can also be used to extinguish fires. Despite its impressive performance, the high-pressure motor pump differs little from its "counterparts" in size and weight.

Rigging

In order to use the pump for its intended purpose, it is required to have a mandatory set of additional devices:

  • an injection pipe with a protective element for pumping water into the pump;
  • pressure hoses for transferring fluid to the required place, the length of these hoses is calculated depending on local requirements for use;
  • adapters are used to connect hoses and a motor pump;
  • fire nozzle - a device that regulates the size of the jet under pressure.

All listed elements must be selected for each pump individually, taking into account the modification and conditions of use.

Working principle and care

After starting the pump, centrifugal force is created, as a result of which the suction of water begins using a mechanism such as a "snail". During the operation of this unit, a vacuum is formed, supplying liquid through the valve to the hose. The full operation of the motor pump begins a few minutes after the start of pumping. A protective filter must be installed at the end of the suction pipe to prevent debris from entering the working compartments of the unit. The pressure of the pumped liquid and the performance of the device directly depend on the power of its engine.

Timely maintenance and compliance with operating rules will significantly increase the life of the unit.

Before using the appliance, the following instructions must be observed:

  • the intake device of the receiving sleeve should be located at a distance of 30 cm from the walls and bottom of the reservoir, as well as at a depth of at least 20 cm from the minimum water level;
  • before starting, the pump suction hose must be filled with water.

Periodic cleaning of the device from dust and dirt, adjustment of the main units, correct filling with grease and fuel will help to extend the trouble-free operation of the device up to 10 years.
