Bitumen is a product of oil refining, it is involved in various spheres of human activity. Therefore, the appearance of bituminous stains on clothes is a rather frequent and unpleasant phenomenon. The material instantly "grasps" in the soft fibers of the fabric and it is almost impossible to wash it off using conventional methods.

You can cope with bituminous pollution using household chemicals, solvents and folk remedies.

Preliminary preparation

You need to start fighting bituminous spots as soon as possible. The success of the event depends on how timely the measures are taken.

  • No need to try to shake off bitumen drops from clothing or wipe the stain off with a napkin . This will smear dirt on the fabric, quickly absorb into the fibers of the fabric and dry out.
  • First of all, the excess bitumen is carefully removed with a razor blade or knife, trying not to touch the fabric . Then the item is placed in a bag and sent to the freezer. The frozen bitumen begins to crumble and is well scraped off the material.
  • The final stage of preparation is the localization of contamination . In order to prevent the stain from spreading over the fabric, the area around it is moistened with soapy water, after which they proceed directly to the removal of the resinous substance.

How to clean with stain removers?

You can get rid of fresh tar stains with stain removers. There is a whole line of industrial products that specialize in difficult soiling.

  • Stubborn dirt can be removed with Docker Mazbit TURBO, a highly alkaline water-based detergent . To do this, the composition is applied to a sponge, gently blot the stain with it, in no case rubbing it, maintain the time indicated in the instructions and rinse with water.
  • Eltrans spray is perfect for removing dried tar . It effectively fights bituminous stains and removes dried spots from the first spraying.
  • Good results are shown by the British drug Super Degreaser . The product is applied generously to the stain, gently scrubbed with a stiff brush, rinsed and machine washed.
  • Stain removers "Taygeta S-405" and Dr. Beckmann is quite effective on bitumen and easy to use . The stain is abundantly moistened with the preparation, wait from one to three minutes, collect the remnants of dirt with a damp sponge and send it to the wash.
  • Products such as Ace Oxi Magic, Vanish and Udalix Oxi Ultra do a good job on moderate dirt . These oxygen agents remove stubborn resins well and do not leave characteristic whitish marks on clothes. The process of removing stains with their help is quite simple and consists in the following: soaked clothes are soaked in warm water with the addition of the required amount of stain remover, and then washed.

When using industrial stain removers, it is necessary to wear gloves and avoid contact with the preparations on the mucous membranes of the nose and eyes. It is advisable to check the action of the product on an inconspicuous area of clothing on the back side.

Most branded drugs do not have a negative effect on the fabric: they gently penetrate the fibers and do not damage them. The color and structure of the material after processing does not change, and the specific smell of the preparation disappears after washing.

How to clean with home remedies?

Small fresh stains can be removed with the help of available tools

  • At home, you can prepare the following mixture: starch, white clay and turpentine must be taken in equal parts, drip a few drops of ammonia and mix well. Apply the mixture generously to the stain and wait for it to dry completely. Then the composition is removed with a stiff brush, after which the item is washed in the washing machine. If yellow stains remain in place of the spot, then they are wiped with hydrogen peroxide until they completely disappear.
  • Soda solution helps to wipe off bitumen from clothes, leaving no residue. To do this, pour 250 g of caustic soda into a 10-liter bucket of water and pour a dirty thing with the resulting solution. After 2 hours, the contamination is washed off with running water, and the clothes are washed in the machine with powder or by hand with laundry soap. The exception is made of leatherette and leatherette. Caustic soda corrodes these materials and therefore cannot be used as a purifier.
  • You can also wash off bituminous pollution with the help of a Coca-Cola drink ., a glass of which is added to the machine along with the powder and the thing is washed. In this way, only small fresh dirt can be removed; the method is not suitable for removing large and old stains.
  • You can also wipe off the tar with butter . To do this, rub a small amount of the product into the stain. At the same time, the fabric lightens, and the oil, on the contrary, becomes black. After the stain is completely removed, the oil is collected with a napkin, and the clothes are placed in the wash.
  • You can remove tar from things with tar or laundry soap . The stain is moistened with water, rubbed with soap and left for 30 minutes. Then the thing is washed well in hot water, repeating the procedure several times if necessary.
  • White clothes can be cleaned with ammonia . To do this, the thing is laid out over the basin so that the spot is in the middle. Ammonium is poured abundantly on top of the contamination and the contaminated area is thoroughly wiped with a cotton pad. Next, the clothes are rinsed and sent to the wash. The second way to remove stains with ammonia is as follows: 1 tsp. ammonia is mixed with 1 tsp. glycerin, applied to the stain, wait 10 minutes and try to wipe it off with cotton swabs or a disc, moving from the edges of the stain to its center. Then the thing is rinsed well and washed in the machine.
  • The contaminated area is watered abundantly with lemon juice or rubbed with lemon, cut in half . Then they wait 30 minutes, after which they are washed in powder.
  • For slight contamination, chalk or dry clay powder is poured onto the stain ., put a paper sheet on top and press it with a heavy object. The next day, using a toothbrush, they clean the residual bitumen and send the clothes to the wash.
  • Fir and vegetable oils allow you to clean bitumen not only from jeans, but also from delicate fabrics. To do this, a couple of discs are moistened in oil and applied to the contaminated areas from the front and back sides. After the stain disappears, the greasy area is poured with a grease dissolving agent (any dishwashing detergent is suitable), wait 15 minutes, rinse off with running water and wash the clothes in a typewriter.
  • For cleaning wool products, alcohol, glycerin and liquid laundry soap mixed in equal parts and treated with a foam sponge.

Can solvents be used?

You can remove a bituminous stain from a natural fabric using a solvent.

However, it should be noted that the easiest way to clean bitumen is from cotton and linen fabrics. Synthetic products under the influence of a solvent are deformed and cleaned much worse.

You should start with less aggressive compounds such as kerosene or white spirit. If it did not work to remove the pollution, then they move on to a more harsh means - refined gasoline.

  • To clean clothes with kerosene , it is applied to a cotton swab and the stain is carefully treated, being careful not to go beyond it. Then the thing is thoroughly washed on the hands with laundry soap, after which it is sent to the machine wash. Processing with white spirit is performed in a similar way.
  • You can use refined gasoline to clean work clothes made from natural fabrics . To do this, a little gasoline is poured onto the stain and left for 3 hours. Then the thing is rinsed under the pressure of water, wrung out, washed with laundry soap and sent to the washing machine. Gasoline can be used both in pure form and mixed in equal parts with turpentine.

There is another interesting way to remove tar: the contaminated material is pulled on a liter jar, spot down, a medical syringe is filled with gasoline and "shot" onto the cloth. Bituminous particles are easily washed out of the fibers under pressure. It remains only to turn the material over and carefully scrape them off.

If, after processing, a yellow spot remains on the fabric, it is removed with hydrogen peroxide.

What should not be used to remove bitumen?

There is an opinion that tar can be cleaned with acetone. However, this belief is erroneous, and it is not necessary to use the substance for this purpose. This is due to the fact that acetone-containing compositions are not able to dissolve the carbon compounds present in the tar . As a result of this treatment, the bituminous spot is only slightly lightened and smeared over the fabric.

You do not need to use WD-40 rust remover . Despite the fact that it contains white spirit, and, in principle, it is able to dissolve bitumen, the drug contains a large amount of mineral oils, stains from which will be very difficult to remove. With such a preparation, tar can be washed off from shoes and cars, but it cannot be used for clothing.
