Can solvents be used?

You can remove a bituminous stain from a natural fabric using a solvent.

However, it should be noted that the easiest way to clean bitumen is from cotton and linen fabrics. Synthetic products under the influence of a solvent are deformed and cleaned much worse.

You should start with less aggressive compounds such as kerosene or white spirit. If it did not work to remove the pollution, then they move on to a more harsh means - refined gasoline.

• To clean clothes with kerosene , it is applied to a cotton swab and the stain is carefully treated, being careful not to go beyond it. Gasoline can be used both in pure form and mixed in equal parts with turpentine.

What should not be used to remove bitumen?

There is an opinion that tar can be cleaned with acetone. However, this belief is erroneous, and it is not necessary to use the substance for this purpose. This is due to the fact that acetone-containing compositions are not able to dissolve the carbon compounds present in the tar . As a result of this treatment, the bituminous spot is only slightly lightened and smeared over the fabric.

You do not need to use WD-40 rust remover . Despite the fact that it contains white spirit, and, in principle, it is able to dissolve bitumen, the drug contains a large amount of mineral oils, stains from which will be very difficult to remove. With such a preparation, tar can be washed off from shoes and cars, but it cannot be used for clothing.
