Beautiful, beloved by many, gladioli originally grew on the shores of the Mediterranean and on the African continent. Now flowers grow in almost every courtyard in Russia. Many gardeners appreciated the beauty of this plant during the flowering period and wondered what to do to make gladioli bloom faster?

How to prepare planting material?

For accelerated flowering, only young tubers from early varieties that have bloomed a couple of times are chosen. The bulbs should be healthy, 5-6 cm high, and about 2 cm in diameter, these have well-developed buds on the sidewalls. In order for gladioli to bloom faster, you need to start preparing a month and a half before disembarkation. The whole process boils down to three stages:

  • cleaning;
  • solution treatment;
  • storage until disembarkation.

Cleaning

First, the bulbs are peeled from the scales, very carefully, so as not to damage the central kidney, which must be left, and cut off the rest … This will speed up the process of early flowering of gladiolus, since all the power of the plant will come only to it, without being distracted by other processes.

Solution treatment

Next, it is worth preparing a solution at the rate of 1 liter of water per 1 capsule of "Epin", place the corms in it for 24 hours. Or prepare another solution of potassium permanganate (manganese) of a saturated pink color and soak the planting material in it for 12 hours.

Storage until disembarkation

Further, the dried tubers must be put up with shoots and removed to a warm room with a humidity of 60-80%, no more, otherwise new fragile roots will grow, which will break off when planting, which clearly does not contribute to early flowering, because the plant will need to recover from injury. Same do not leave the tubers in a place with excessively dry air, there is a risk of drying out the roots . The temperature should be between 24 and 27 degrees. It is better to take plastic boxes with a mesh bottom. Alternatively, you can put it in shallow cardboard boxes, in which you can make ventilation holes at the bottom.

It is worth keeping the corms in this form immediately before planting in open ground. There is another way to speed up flowering. The preparation of the material is the same, only it must not only be folded into boxes, but planted in the ground. By the time of planting on the site, gladioli will already have stems and leaves up to 100 cm high.

Many gardeners like this method more, as it gives an earlier and more abundant flowering.

What to add to the soil before planting?

For planting gladioli, they begin to prepare the soil ahead of time, even in the fall, so that they bloom earlier in the spring. Dig well the ground 40-50 cm deep, remove all weeds and add superphosphate fertilizer at the rate of 70-100 grams per 1 sq. m. Also, potash fertilizers will be a good top dressing . In the spring, potash fertilizers are applied, but without chlorine. For example, potassium sulfate or potassium magnesium. Follow the instructions carefully. Immediately before planting the bulbs in the ground, fill the bottom of the grooves with a solution of the "Maxim" preparation at the rate of 20 ml of fertilizer per 10 liters of water.

Then on the bottom it is worth pouring a handful of sand 1-2 cm thick, on the sand onions and again cover with sand on top. Lime flour is added to acidic soils, and in order to dilute clay soil, you need to mix peat with sand in an amount of 3 to 5 buckets . Urea, wood ash, potash fertilizers and phosphoric fertilizers are added to the soil with a small amount of nutrients.

In no case do not fertilize fresh organic matter. This causes various fungal diseases in gladioli.

What and when to water after?

Watering should be started after the first shoots appear. Remember to loosen and weed the soil systematically. Gladioli cannot stand watering with cold water, so stand the water in buckets in the sun. Watering must also be done before each feeding. When the second leaf appears, it is worth feeding the plant with saltpeter (dilute 15-20 g of calcium nitrate in 10 liters of water). To make gladioli bloom earlier, then a week after the first feeding we water the plant with a solution consisting of the following microelements:

  • potassium permanganate - 2-3 g;
  • boric acid - 2-3 g;
  • magnesium sulfate - 4-5 g;
  • zinc sulfate - 1-1.5 g;
  • ammonium molybdate - 1.5-2 g;
  • cobalt nitrate - 1-1.5 g;

The second watering with this composition should be done after 21 days and a total of 4 times. When 4 leaves appear, you need to water it with urea and potassium sulfate, each 30 g per 10 liters of water per 1 sq. m. When the following sheets appear, organic fertilizer can be added to this composition, diluted in a ratio of 1: 20. During the growth of the arrow of the peduncle and the blooming of the buds, it is worth watering with nitrophosphate, diluting 30 g per 10 liters of water . It is also calculated for 1 sq. m. soil.

In order for the bulbs to be larger for planting next year, it is necessary, when the gladiolus blooms, to water the plant with boric acid diluted in water at the rate of 2: 10. In early September, all plantings of a plant can be watered with potassium permanganate in a proportion of 5 g per 10 liters of water . And after that, all feeding should be completely stopped.

Recommendations

For the abundant flowering of gladioli, you can use trick. Plant the garlic between the rows. It kills all microbes that can cause diseases of gladioli, respectively, it has a good effect on the flowering of the plant. Do not plant it in the same place. Every 3 years it is worth changing the place of planting flowers . It is better to plant gladioli in a sunny place, where the plants will be well protected from bad weather and wind.
