Today the construction industry is developing very rapidly. New trends are emerging, and therefore every building material, in order to be in demand, must correspond to them. This is especially true for various finishing materials, without which not a single construction and repair process can do.
These products include gypsum panels, which have recently appeared on the construction market . It is about them that will be discussed in the article.
What is it and where is it used?
Gypsum panels (GML) look like a flat multi-layer cassette. It consists of two structural elements:
- inner part - drywall;
- the outer part, which is a metal sheet, which is designed to protect the drywall from external factors.
Sheet thickness - from 0, 55 to 0, 7 mm, stainless steel, galvanized steel or aluminum sheet can be used as a metal sheet.
Stainless steel is used in its pure form, but galvanized and aluminum must be covered with several layers of the so-called topcoat, which is used as:
- vinyl;
- pural;
- polyester;
- polyester varnish.
GML is manufactured in accordance with building codes and regulations, which are clearly indicated in GOST 14644, GOST 52539 and TU 5284-002-4316168-2013. All physical and technical parameters, properties, rules of operation, installation of the product are defined in these documents.
According to the documents, gypsum panels can be of the following sizes:
- width - from 60 cm to 120 cm;
- length - from 60 cm to 4 m;
- thickness - from 1 cm to 1.3 cm.
Currently, it is a fairly popular and frequently used building material. The demand for the product is justified by a number of features that are inherent in it, namely:
- strength;
- reliability;
- durability;
- ease of installation;
- environmental friendliness;
- low coefficient of flammability and toxicity;
- aesthetic appearance;
- a wide range of colors;
- availability;
- low cost;
- quality.
One of the main advantages of the product is its wide range of applications. Most often, gypsum panels are used in certain cases.
- For the walls of the operating room, delivery room or intensive care unit. This is due to the fact that GML itself is completely safe, and in addition to everything, the material is resistant to temperature extremes, humidity, high pressure and abrasive chemicals that process the walls of these rooms. It is very important that dust does not collect on the panels, microbes and mold do not multiply.
- In the premises of the pharmacology and food industry.
The characteristics and properties of the product made it the ideal cladding material for this type of room.
However, today gypsum metal has found another application:
- they are lined with walls of technical rooms, garages;
- many car washes and garages also stop at GML for wall cladding;
- a wide selection and assortment of color design of the panels has contributed to the fact that the material is often used by designers when decorating rooms for a particular style.
- also many office premises, buildings of shopping and entertainment centers use GML as a facing and finishing building material.
What are they?
There are several types and classifications of gypsum panels. Manufacturers, given the scope of such products, can use several types of drywall:
- usual;
- moisture resistant;
- with an increased coefficient of refractoriness;
- drywall with excellent fireproof and moisture resistant performance.
There is another classification of the product, based on which the product differs at the place of installation. GML-panel can be wall and ceiling.
A ceiling facing slab is not much different from a wall panel. There is, perhaps, one nuance that is associated with the installation process.
When wall GMLs are installed, a frame of galvanized profiles on which the panels are mounted is necessarily assembled on the wall.
In the modern construction market, there is not only a diverse range of products themselves, but also a choice of manufacturers. Almost every construction company is engaged in the production of this type of material for obvious reasons - it is in demand. Among the many manufacturers, it is worth highlighting some whose products are of high quality and comply with building codes.
- Nayada . The company is engaged in the production of partitions, doors, and including GML panels. The company's products are presented in the markets of Russia, the CIS and the EU.
- Pharmostroy Group of Companies . This is one of the most famous manufacturers, whose products are characterized by durability, high quality and long service life.
- LLC "PharmEngineering ". Since 2012, the company has been engaged in the reconstruction and arrangement of cleanrooms. Works with modern materials and equipment. At its factories, it manufactures very high-quality GML panels, which it uses in the cladding process.
Installation methods
There are two methods of installing gypsum panels that are practiced today
- Independent . This method involves joining the sides of the panels butt-to-joint or overlapping. When installing panels in this way, a gap will always form between them, which can be bridged using a special profile. The main advantage of the independent installation method of GM panels is the ability to dismantle each individual panel.
- Stationary . This mounting method is more acceptable. It implies a strong joint of the studs and a reliable connection of each groove. A feature of the method is the installation of special locks on each panel using self-tapping screws, which ensure the connection and fastening of the product to each other.
Each of the above methods are practiced, and they have something in common - the need to seal each joint. In the process of independent installation, when the gap width reaches 8 mm, a special silicone shaped seal is used to seal the joints. And if the installation is performed by a stationary method, and the seams are no more than 2.5 mm, use a sealant, silicone.
