An interesting decoration of any interior can be a wall clock decorated in an unusual design. Currently, models made of epoxy resin and wood are gaining more and more popularity. Today we will talk about the features of such accessories, as well as how they are made.
Peculiarities
Wall clocks made of epoxy resin look as original as possible, they are often used as a beautiful accent in the interior of a room. Such models, as a rule, have a bright abstract background.
Epoxy clocks look most expensive if wood with an unusual structure was used in their manufacture. For such products, a thin, almost imperceptible coating is most often made, and some samples do, in general, without it.
And also when creating such watches, a special phosphor in powder form is sometimes used. It allows the product to glow a little in the dark.
At the same time, you should not allow substances that contain alcohol or various compounds that are solvents to get on the epoxy watch.
Design options
There are a great many design options for such wall clocks. Models with wood will look interesting . In this case, one half is created only from epoxy resin - various colors are suitable for this, but sometimes this part is made completely transparent. For the second half of the accessory, a solid piece of wood is useful - here you can pick up any shade of material, it must be covered with protective compounds. In this case, arrows and numbers are made from a thin metal or plastic base.
Models completely made of epoxy resin look interesting . In this case, a small plastic or metal cap is used, inside which layers of this resin of different shades are placed, mixed with each other. The hands can be made from almost any other material, the numbers can be omitted, but then the watch will only act as a decorative detail.
Products made entirely from a single piece of light-colored wood look original on the wall . At the same time, it is covered with a transparent epoxy compound. The hands and numbers on the watch are made of thin black plastic.
Such options can perfectly fit into modern interior styles.
How are they made?
You can make a watch from this material with your own hands. This will require several items.
- Base workpiece . As it, you can take a solid MDF product (you can use plywood).
- Clockwork . It must be fully assembled and working.
- Epoxy resin . Together with it, you should buy and prepare a special hardener and epoxy primer in advance.
- Accessories . These include disposable gloves for work, plastic cups, spatulas for mixing the mixture, brushes, napkins and special masking tape.
- Equipment . It is represented by a gas burner and a level.
- Pigments . They will be needed to create the finishing of the watch.
When all the necessary materials and tools have been prepared, you can start making the watch itself . To do this, first, a little epoxy primer is applied to the workpiece. This is done in order to tightly seal all the pores of the tree.
After that, the sides of the workpiece are sealed with masking tape. This should be done to prevent the epoxy from spilling or spreading after application. Later, use a spirit level to make sure your work surface is level and level.
The workpiece is placed on supports (for this, you can use several disposable plastic cups).
If you place the future watch directly on the countertop, it can stick to its surface due to the epoxy dripping.
Then the resin itself should be prepared. To do this, epoxy and a hardener are mixed together in a spacious clean container. The correct proportions will be indicated on the packages . After that, the finished mixture is gradually and thoroughly mixed with a wooden spatula. It is worth doing this without interruption for several minutes.
The finished composition is poured into three separate containers (pour a large, medium and minimum amount of the mixture into them) . Then, special dyes of white and gray shades are added to a glass with a large amount of contents.
A little black pigment is poured into the second container. In the last glass - silver paint. When all the blanks of the substance are ready, you can start pouring the product.
A light gray substance is poured into the central part of the future clock. After that, the composition is carefully distributed over the surface - this can be done with a small spatula.
Using the mixing stick, carefully draw a small black line . You can depict several of these elements at once. Later, lines are drawn in the same way with a silver mixture. To slightly blur the resulting lines, you can use small brushes.
At the same time, cut out the numbers and hands for the dial, it is better to do this from a plastic or metal base.
The work is left for 10 minutes, after which they take a gas burner and get rid of the bubbles formed with it . The workpiece is left for another 2 hours so that it can fully harden. It will acquire final hardness only after a day. At the final stage, hands and numbers are attached to the base, and the clockwork is assembled.
Care Tips
Products made from epoxy resin require special care. So, you will need to regularly wipe the watch with a dry and soft cloth. If you used a damp cloth, wipe the surface of the part immediately dry. Otherwise, ugly stains will quickly appear on the surface.
It is undesirable to hang the watch in such a way that ultraviolet rays fall on it . Otherwise, the substance may simply burn out.
Do not let the product come into contact with alcohol, acetone, solvents. Otherwise, the surface will become too soft and slightly cloudy.
Beautiful examples
A clock decorated in an emerald color with a slight addition of golden pigment will look unusual in the interior of the room. At the same time, arrows and numbers can be made of any material, covering them with golden paint . It is also permissible to thin the surface of the product with a small amount of black pigment.
Another original option can be a wall clock made of transparent epoxy resin with an insert from an uneven piece of wood. Moreover, it can be of any color. It is better to choose a product with an unusual structure and irregularities . It is inserted into the central part of the object. In this case, the arrows can also be made of wood, but at the same time they must be different in color, otherwise they will merge against the general background. The numbers can be omitted, at all.
