Having conceived the decoration of the walls, ceiling or floor, you want to do the job as practical as possible, even if the work surface looks old and porous. Masters can easily cope with this, since the secret of success is concentrated in the use of a special surface treatment agent. Let's figure it out together in the purpose of a deep penetration acrylic primer and the technology of its application.

Peculiarities

Acrylic deep penetration primer is a special material for surface treatment before finishing work, in its finished form it resembles milk in consistency.

The color can be different: more often it is transparent, sometimes white, pinkish, light gray . This primer is a type of acrylic primer. It is not a universal remedy, so the purchase of the material should be based strictly on the prescription of the drug.

Today, no type of finishing work can do without such a soil. The material is a little sticky, if not immediately washed off the hands, it is difficult to remove.

Sold primarily in cans and cans. The volume depends on the manufacturer's standards. More often, such compositions are produced in a volume of 10 liters.

In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plain water. It does not corrode the skin of the hands, depending on the base, it can be environmentally friendly, odorless or with a slight specific aroma that does not interfere with the work process.

This material is sold as a dry mix and a ready-to-process solution. In the first case, it is a powder that must be diluted with water according to the instructions.

Water is used cool: hot will affect the performance of the building product. This is convenient, since this material is usually sufficient for processing the floor, walls and ceiling of a spacious room.

Leftovers can be stored for 12 months by tightly closing the lid and removing the raw material in a dark place. It is unacceptable to store it in the cold. The shelf life of a deep penetrating acrylic primer is 2 years from the date of issue. Masters do not recommend using it after the expiration date has passed.

Advantages and disadvantages

Deep penetration acrylic primer has many advantages. Such a tool strengthens the base, making its structure strong enough. You can use this composition for external and internal work. It is suitable for the most unreliable substrates that do not externally instill confidence in the success of the cladding. This primer has a high viscosity. Its convenience is water solubility.

The use of acrylic primer saves on the amount of adhesive or paint: the treated surface no longer absorbs liquid in a large volume, therefore it does not dry out quickly and allows finishing work to be carried out neatly, without haste.

After processing dark surfaces with this primer, the paint lays down evenly without unpainted areas, stripes and other defects. In this case, the gloss of the surface is more pronounced. Regarding the rest of the finishing components, it can be noted: the application of tile and wallpaper glue after applying the primer becomes more uniform, which simplifies the finish.

Latex primer is vapor permeable . Despite the fact that it penetrates deep into the base and strengthens even porous surfaces, microorganisms and mold will not appear on it. At the same time, after application, the primer itself does not inhibit the facing work: it dries quickly even at normal room temperature. Drying time may vary as it depends on the type of solvent used (fast, slow, classic).

The disadvantage of an acrylic primer is some inconvenience of diluting the concentrate, which not everyone likes. Basically, beginners complain about this, who are afraid to accurately recreate the desired consistency, which leads to an increase in soil consumption.

Despite the fact that a primer can be used for treating different types of surfaces, not every formulation is suitable for dark metals. Therefore, the use of this agent for cladding is permissible only if the required type of surface is on the list, marked on the package.

What is it for?

Acrylic (or latex) primer is suitable for surfaces of different compositions. The action of the material is based on imparting high adhesion to the processed plane with the subsequent applied material. It is needed so that the finish stays on the surface for as long as possible.

This primer does not just process the top layer of the base for finishing: it penetrates to a depth of 5 to 10 cm deep into the plane on which it is applied.

The action is based on the penetrating ability, which allows to strengthen the walls, made by the developer in violation of the technology. These are more often concrete walls or plaster, in which there is much more sand than the norm. Such surfaces crumble, which complicates the finishing process and may affect the final result. The action of acrylic primer allows it to penetrate deeply into cracks and problem areas of surfaces.

The material binds not only microcracks: it binds dust and forces all areas of the surface, at the risk of poor strength, to retain the facing material as much as possible. In this case, it does not matter at all whether it is wallpaper, ceramic, ceiling tiles or self-leveling floor. An interesting feature is the formation of a rough mesh on the surface during solidification, which levels the base, preparing it for subsequent processing.

Acrylic primer is suitable for the treatment of cement-concrete screeds, it can be used for processing wood, plaster types of surfaces, limestone. It will glue the smallest particles of the base, will help prevent the formation of blue and rot.

This soil is a protection against moisture. It can be used for surface preparation for parquet, enamel, marble chips, structural plaster. It will everywhere reward a monolithic flat base.

Application technology

Applying a primer to a surface is easier than meets the eye.

When working you will need:

  • foam roller;
  • flat brush;
  • small flat brush;
  • gloves;
  • flat container for primer.

In the case of a dry concentrate, it is worth adding to this set a container for diluting the material, which is diluted strictly in the proportions indicated by the manufacturer (usually 1: 4).

Stirring is carried out until the composition becomes homogeneous. In this case, a mask may be needed so that the dry composition does not enter the lungs.

After preparing the necessary equipment and the primer itself, they begin to process the surfaces. The soil is poured into a flat container, approximately 1/3 covering the volume of the roller placed in it. You should not pour more: the solution will drain from the roller in large quantities, which is inconvenient when processing the surfaces of walls or ceilings. The roller is convenient in that it halves the time spent on surface treatment.

There is no need to fill the walls: the primer already has a high penetrating power. However, you should not save either: the main thing is that there is no splatter when rolling the surface. The movements should not be abrupt: this is especially true if the renovation in the room is partial. If soil gets on, say, wallpaper, stains may remain on it.

The solution is collected on a roller and the surface is rolled with it for further cladding. Since in any work one cannot do without processing the corners of the joints and inconvenient places, the working tool is changed to a brush of the desired size. The roller does not cope with accurate processing of corners: usually in this case, you cannot avoid streaks along the walls.

The brush will avoid unnecessary waste and will make the processing more accurate.

When all planes have been processed, you need to immediately remove the remnants of the primer from the tools and containers. If you leave it for later, the foam and bristles of the brush will become oak. After they have solidified, the brushes and the foam rubber coat will have to be thrown away. In the process of work, the material should be poured into the container little by little: it will not work to pour the remnants back into the common canister (they will contain the smallest dust particles or micro-fragments of the cement screed).

Primer the surface twice. In this case, re-application of the primer is possible only after the first layer has dried.

What to consider?

So that finishing work is not complicated by the choice of the wrong primer or the wrong application, it is worth considering a few recommendations.

Experts recommend paying attention to the expiration date when buying. If less than a month is left until its end, and the product can certainly remain, either they take it right next to the purchase, or they choose a material of another brand.

It is preferable to use a primer from a trusted company with a good reputation: cheap varieties do not have good viscosity, they will not be able to create a strong crystal network and level the base at the proper level.

To maximize adhesion, before applying the primer itself, the surface must be free of dust, dirt and especially grease stains that impede a quality finish. Distributed by means of a roller over the surface of the facing cloth, dust, grains of sand will prevent further gluing of the wallpaper, causing small bubbles under the wallpaper.

The cladding can be made after the second layer of soil has completely dried . This is determined by the fact that when it touches the surface, it does not stick. The walls are primed before processing. If the repair is not planned for another month, there is no wash-off to apply the primer in advance.

It is impossible to treat the floor with a primer if it is not prepared and there are significant cracks: this will lead to the leakage of the composition. He will not fix big problems, for this you need to use a cement composition.
