Description
Dielectric gloves are the primary protection against electrical shock when working with equipment up to 1000 V. Rubber rubber is the most common material for the manufacture of such products.
Rubber is made from synthetic isoprene or styrene rubber, from which various components that affect the electrical conductivity of the finished product are removed. The material is regulated by GOST. The reliability of the gloves is their main quality for consumers . A feature of some types of gloves is a seamless production technology, which eliminates tears at the seams in the event of increased mechanical stress or friction.
Other types of similar products have seams covered with solid sheets of rubber. There are also dielectric gloves made of especially durable latex, manufactured according to a separate GOST, but their reliability is lower in comparison with rubber.
Tear strength is one of the most important characteristics of gloves for electricians . According to GOST instructions, it is not permissible to use latex dielectric products when servicing equipment above 1000 V, because their reliability is lower than rubber ones.
Also, for increased protection of people working with currents up to 10,000 V, it is recommended to use silicone dielectric gloves in addition to other protective tools.
Silicone is practically incapable of conducting current; therefore, such gloves are one of the most important elements of an electrician's work clothes.
Classification
Two types of dielectric gloves are used, distinguished by the degree of reliability
- Dielectric products of protection classes 0 and 00 are used in work with electrical equipment up to 1000 V. It is strictly forbidden to use such gloves for equipment with a voltage exceeding 1000 V.
- Recommended gloves for use on equipment with values greater than 1000 V , marked with protection classes 1, 2 and so on. In this case, dielectric gloves are used as additional protection along with voltage indicators, insulating rods and insulating pliers and other mandatory protective equipment for an electrician. It is allowed to use gloves without other protection for working with drives of high-voltage disconnectors, various switches and other similar electrical parts of equipment with a voltage slightly exceeding 1000 V.
Dielectric silicone gloves of 1, 2 and subsequent protection classes, it is allowed to use in equipment maintenance up to 1000 V . At the same time, they reliably protect against injury. During operation, it is necessary to pull the dielectric gloves completely - so that the sockets cover the sleeves of the protective form. It is forbidden to roll up and bend the bell of the mittens, shortening their length.
Silicone or rubber dielectric products with five or two fingers are allowed for work with high-voltage electrical equipment . It is necessary that the markings "En" and "Ev" are respected. The length of dielectric gloves or mittens required by GOST is 350 mm. In the autumn-winter season, the size of dielectric gloves should be such that you can wear knitted or fleece gloves inside to keep warm.
The sockets should be wide enough so that you can easily pull the gloves over the sleeves of your uniform.
Features of choice and use
Safety and usability are the main criteria for choosing dielectric gloves. Also, manufacturers take into account other consumer needs and produce various sizes of these products.
The length according to GOST is 350 mm, and this is a characteristic feature of certified products . Dielectric gloves must sit on your hands so that you can put on one more warm gloves inside. In special working conditions, special leather gloves can be worn on top to increase durability.
The sockets of dielectric gloves must be pulled over the sleeves of any uniform.
High-quality gloves are completed with a data sheet, which indicates all the physical parameters of the products and the required conditions for normal use. Choose gloves based on the recommended protection class of products and the nature of work on electrical equipment. Such gloves are widely used in various enterprises and municipal organizations.
Gloves are visually inspected each time for possible surface damage prior to use. You can also knead them with a little effort to reveal imperfections or cracks. To identify punctures, you can twist the products from the bell to the fingers.
The tightness can be checked in a simple way: fill with air, then squeeze a little . In the event of damage to the product, the defects will be immediately noticeable. This is necessary to exclude the passage of current through holes and punctures.
The products used for work are regularly washed from contamination with solutions of ordinary soap or baking soda. You need to dry them indoors, but not on a battery.
For dielectric latex gloves, conductance tests are required strictly according to the schedule established by the instructions. To test the product, place it with your fingers down in a metal container with water at room temperature . A deviation in one direction or another of 100 is possible. Water must also be poured into the gloves, and the upper edge of the sockets is left dry at least 5 cm from the edge.
An electrode must be placed in the glove; a voltage of 6 kV is applied to it . It is allowed to test several pairs of gloves at the same time, the main thing is that the electric current values are monitored. If there is a breakdown of the product with an electric current, then the glove must be disposed of. In other cases, the values of the passing current are measured, while it should not exceed the norm of 6 mA.
After completing the inspection, the products must be completely dry indoors.
