Houses made of foam blocks and wooden structures do not look very attractive, so many owners tend to sheathe them with siding. Facing buildings with this material allows not only to improve the appearance of the building, but also to hide flaws - curved walls or careless work of builders. Siding perfectly withstands temperature changes and can serve you for decades, and a large selection of colors is even scary, because it is not so easy to decide on a shade . However, there is one question that worries every builder: is it possible to install siding without crate and, if so, how to do it?
Purpose of the crate
Sheathing is one of the most important structural elements of a house.
It is a frame beams that are mounted perpendicular to the racks and rafters - vertically and horizontally, forming a kind of mesh.
The lathing gives the frame building the necessary rigidity and perfectly masks the unevenness of the surface. In addition, this design performs several more functions:
- makes it possible to fix the facing material - siding;
- facilitates the process of covering the house;
- protects walls from condensation and moisture;
- creates ventilation gaps through which various communications can be carried out;
- the space between the wall and the facing material is filled with air, with competent work, it will allow you to keep warm in the room and prevent drafts.
Sheathing is used almost everywhere: for roofs, ceilings, floors and, most importantly, for walls . This structure is fixed from the outside and allows you to evenly distribute the load from the roof over the entire area of / u200b / u200bthe walls. When building multi-storey buildings, you need to know that each floor requires its own crate.
Wall lathing is of two types:
- horizontal - in this case, the supports are located at an angle of 90 degrees, even a beginner can cope with its creation;
- oblique - the angle between the beams and the supporting elements of the frame is 45 degrees, which makes the structure itself much stronger.
The creation of the crate is not such a difficult process, but it requires certain knowledge, effort, time and money. Fortunately, in some cases, this stage of construction can be dispensed with.
Pros and cons of tree mounting
Wooden houses are now quite rare, but sometimes it is necessary to sheathe such structures with siding . This is exactly the situation where the crate is not needed: if the walls are perfectly flat, you can attach the facing material directly to the surface.
There is only one advantage of the frameless installation method - it saves time and does not require large expenses . There are practically no shortcomings either, but those that exist are quite serious. In such a structure, there is no necessary gap between the siding, as a result, the formation of condensation increases. Any wood material (OSB boards, logs or boards) has a negative attitude to moisture, quickly becomes moldy and rotts under its influence. Both plastic and vinyl siding (especially light ones) are very easy to stain, it has to be washed periodically, and it is impossible to do this without harm to the wooden structure.
Is it possible to mount to a brick wall and from blocks?
It should be said right away that installing siding directly to a brick wall or to a block wall is a very bad idea.
Even a perfectly flat surface (and this happens quite rarely) does not give a reason to save on crate.
Attempts to nail siding onto penoplex or aerated concrete will take a lot of time and effort, and after a year or two the owners will regret it, because they will have to completely remove it, carry out surface treatment and sheathe the house again.
How to mount?
Professionals advise you to think about vapor barrier if there is definitely no crate. To do this, you can use a polyethylene film with a layer of lamination and metal foil, a foamed substrate with a foil surface, a diffusion membrane or isospan.
Algorithm of actions
- Treat wooden surfaces with an antiseptic.
- After the walls are prepared, a plate heat insulator is installed between the rafters.
- With the help of a thread, the insulation is fixed, after which the film itself is mounted. It should be laid with an overlap on adjacent walls by 10-15 centimeters.
- Then the internal gluing of the seams and the external edges of the joints is performed.
Only then can the siding be mounted. To do this, you will need the following materials:
- siding;
- corner elements;
- starting bar;
- ebb.
The work can be facilitated if you prepare in advance:
- sealant;
- self-tapping screws;
- screwdriver;
- scissors for metal;
- a hacksaw with fine teeth;
- ruler and tape measure;
- level.
Instructions for attaching siding to a surface without a crate:
- the planks are fastened to the outer and inner corners, the corners are fixed, the platbands are mounted on the doors and windows;
- a horizontal line is marked along which the strips will be fixed in the future;
- the starting profile is fixed with self-tapping screws;
- the rest of the profile is fixed with the help of the lock connection;
- additional strips are installed near window and door openings;
- decorative strips are attached, and the finishing panel is installed.
Sheathing is the most important structural element when creating frame houses . Its fastening provides protection of the structure and cladding material from condensation, but the creation of this structure takes time and money. When sheathing wooden houses with siding, you can do without it by installing a high-quality vapor barrier, but when installing siding on a foam block, it is better not to save money and install a horizontal or oblique crate.
