The corner cabinet is one of the most ergonomic pieces of furniture in the modern kitchen. It does not occupy the usable floor space, does not constrain the already small possibilities for movement in small typical kitchens and gives more space for storing all kinds of utensils. These cabinets are made from a wide variety of materials and are designed in different styles and colors at the request of the customer.

Kitchen corner cabinets have many varieties, and for this reason, it is very desirable to make special placement drawings in the kitchen where the cabinet will be installed before purchasing them.

Regardless of the size of the room, they learned to use corners rationally back in the century before last, because nowadays the lack of free space is seen everywhere. Each individual case requires an individual solution, but the need to comply with the general laws of planning and the choice of such cabinets is obvious.

Kitchen cabinets can be clearly categorized into two types.

Hinged

L-shaped cabinets are distinguished by their spaciousness. They are often equipped with double-leaf "tram" doors, which makes the inner space of the cabinet as accessible as possible. Triangular-shaped cabinets are hung where there will be no adjacent section due to the fact that it will not be very convenient to use them due to the straight-shaped door, which will block access to the adjacent section. The trapezoidal shape of the cabinet has a capacity advantage of approximately 20% compared to the L-shaped version. The radial shape of the cabinet differs from the trapezoidal only in the door - it is semicircular, as the name implies. Such a door is impossible or very difficult to manufacture outside the workshop, therefore this furniture belongs to a higher price category.

Except in very rare cases, massive household appliances are not installed in wall cabinets. Consequently, they are not as strong and spacious as the base / floor . In width (for a small-sized kitchen), it can be 1500-8000 mm, depending on its configuration (triangular, trapezoidal, L-shaped). 3500 mm was taken as the standard for cabinet depth, the distance between the bottom of the wall cabinet and the tabletop is not recommended to be more than half a meter (+/- 500 mm), but these are average sizes that suit most users of standard kitchens, although corner structures can be of any size. customer's request.

Floor

First of all, such a cabinet is chosen taking into account the dimensions of the kitchen (gas or electric) stove. For a small kitchen, a depth of no more than half a meter is recommended. The calculation of 8500 mm was taken as the standard height, with the assumption of its decrease due to the small growth of users. Width dimensions vary within 1500-8000 mm, optimally - 6000 mm.

Pencil case

Although such a floor-standing version, which combines a wall-mounted and a floor-mounted part, is both convenient for use and roomy, it is quite rare to be found in modern kitchen sets. Today, most housewives prefer to install separate headsets.

Corner with sink

Very handy for the vast majority of kitchens. With a modern layout, the sink is located in the corner, which saves the already useful usable area. In addition, having acquired such a cabinet, it is enough to simply build a small mortise sink into the countertop into it, and the use of small-sized modern water supply and sewage systems greatly saves space under it.

If we talk about the form, then as it can copy the upper mounted models, and not correspond to them, although the first option is undoubtedly more rational.

Bottom simple

The difference between such a cabinet and a cabinet with a sink is only its absence and, accordingly, a large useful volume inside. Most often, they choose a model where only a horizontal shelf or two is used, but the most spacious are the models equipped with pull-out drawers . They completely fill the internal volume of the cabinet, dividing it into tiers, which is very ergonomic. Often, instead of the lower cabinet under the countertop, you can see a washing machine, which is again done to save space in the kitchen. In terms of shape, it also echoes the wall cabinet.

Trapezoidal floor

Such a corner cabinet saves space, has a relatively large useful volume, but has one unpleasant feature: it has a relatively narrow door. For this reason, it is not advised to install sinks in a trapezoidal cabinet - in case of leaks, access to the equipment under the sink will be difficult.

Standard dimensions

A corner kitchen cabinet must at the same time correspond to the size of the kitchen, and the performance characteristics, and the wishes of the customer. Today vendors provide kitchen units in standard sizes that match the size of the kitchen, but there are no strict rules and regulations that would dictate their size. All dimensional ratios are dictated by the size of a particular kitchen. For example, a Khrushchev kitchen of an L-shaped type will require a ratio of 2, 6x1, 2, and already a Brezhnev kitchen - 2, 8x1, 8.

The height of the wall to the ceiling is also of great importance. In "Khrushchev" buildings, a headset height of 2150 mm will be needed, and in "brezhnevkas" or in typical modern apartments it will exceed 2400 mm. If we talk about "stalinkas", here the height often exceeds all 3000 mm.

Floor Furniture Standards:

  • height - 850 mm;
  • the thickness of the countertop is calculated depending on the material and the expected load;
  • the depth of the countertop is not recommended to be less than 460 mm (the pull-out right drawer will take 450 mm + 10 mm will go into the gap to the rear wall), it should protrude forward above the cabinet door by 5-30 mm.

Hanging furniture standards:

  • height - 790-900 mm;
  • depth - 300 mm;
  • do not hang the cabinet above the level of 2100 mm, and from the table top to the wall cabinet there should be at least 450 mm;
  • the sides adjacent to the walls are equal to 600 mm, excluding the 130 mm cut;
  • the walls that adjoin adjacent segments each have a length of 315 mm;
  • the facade is 380 mm wide;
  • the shelf must correspond to the weight of the utensils that you plan to store on it;
  • the standard shelf thickness is 18 mm, but for storing heavy items, the shelf must be strengthened to 21 mm or more;
  • there is no need to make boxes deeper than 400 mm, while taking into account the possible presence of communications (pipes, wires) passing by the wall;
  • placing a wall cabinet above the stove sharply limits the height of the cabinet - there must be a sufficient gap between them;
  • the standard of corner cabinets is 600x600 mm with a facade of 420 mm and a depth of 300 mm.

Differences in box sizes

An original and practical solution for corner cabinets of kitchen sets can be the use of drawers. It is quite unusual, but very ergonomic and convenient to use them.

Advantages:

  • the corner drawer makes the kitchen unusual and looks peculiar;
  • the pull-out drawer makes the most of the space in the corner of the room, which is always difficult to access;
  • it becomes possible to simulate the internal volume as you wish - you can always install the required number of partitions in a box, divide it at will, in order to know where what thing is.

The disadvantage is the high cost. Drawers in comparison with conventional doors will require a lot of investment.

The size of the box depends entirely on the area of the kitchen. The hardware manufacturers offer ranges from 900mm bottom corner cabinet drawers to 1200mm at a depth of 650mm. I must say that high-quality retractable fittings can withstand the weight of the contents of the box in more than 40 kilograms.

Several life hacks

  • Typically small drawers of this type are used for storing cutlery, small kitchen utensils, small dishes, spice containers, etc.
  • To increase the capacity of the box, its side walls are usually "built up". It becomes deeper and more spacious.
  • To reduce closing noise, it is recommended to use the built-in damping system. In addition, the absence of impacts on the back wall will increase the life of the furniture.
  • For greater comfort, there are electric drawer opening systems, which, of course, will increase the cost of the corner cabinet even more.
