Almost all people associate summer with hot weather, vacation, travel, warm sea, forest and similar pleasant places and pastime. But everyone also knows well that the warm season is also a lot of annoying mosquitoes that somehow miraculously itch and bite not only on the street, but also in the home. How do these annoying insects fly into the house, what loopholes do they find? This is what we will talk about in this article.

Reasons for the appearance

A mosquito is an insect that activates in search of food in the late afternoon, when the temperature and humidity outside become acceptable for it. During the day, mosquitoes are practically invisible; they prefer to rest in the shade, hiding from the hot sun.

What's most interesting is that mosquitoes are not interested in your home at all - they get into it in most cases by accident.

But this only applies to males and virgin females . Why? They don't need human blood like food. Their priority is meadow food, pollen or nectar from plants. The life span of a male insect is no more than 10 days. During this time, he must have time to fertilize the female. But the latter after that become the most dangerous, and it is they who can buzz so annoyingly throughout the night, bite and drink blood. Why are they doing that?

The thing is that for the future offspring of mosquitoes, human blood is a nutrient. That is why the female, which is going to lay eggs, is constantly in search of food. She is never wrong, with an exceptional sense of smell and ultraviolet vision. In search of a blood donor, an insect can travel up to hundreds of kilometers. It identifies the victim at a distance of 50 meters.

An excellent sense of smell makes it possible for the mosquito to catch the smell of the human body and sweat and understand that the victim is alive . After the female chooses a body for a bite, she will not lag behind until she drinks plenty of blood. During the night, the insect is capable of producing about 15 bites. It should be noted that they are dangerous to humans, as they carry various diseases.

Many people wonder about where large mosquitoes go with the onset of cold, and where they come from after winter in an apartment or in a house, if they lay offspring on the street, and the windows are closed. The fact is that not all females manage to fertilize their eggs and lay them in the right place. Those who meet the male lay offspring on the surface of the water. The eggs sink to the bottom, where they hibernate. With the onset of warmth, they rise again to the surface, and larvae hatch from the eggs.

The same female mosquito, whose eggs are not fertilized, lay offspring in the basement of houses . A damp basement, where there is always high humidity, there is no sun rays - this is an ideal place for them.

It is in the basement that the entire life cycle of the formation of an adult mosquito takes place. There they continue to multiply and wait for warming.

How to find a place?

Finding the exact location of mosquitoes in a home is almost impossible, as they are constantly migrating. But, taking into account the life cycle and characteristics of the insect, we can say for sure that mosquitoes enter an apartment or house through:

  • cracks in window and door openings;
  • ventilation shaft;
  • pipeline that comes from the basement.

As already mentioned, most often mosquitoes live and form masonry in places with high humidity, and if we are talking about a room inside a house, then this is a basement. In private homes, mosquitoes choose cellars. It is from these places that mosquitoes then fly into houses.

Mosquitoes can also inhabit the bathroom, as it is humid, cool and often dark, which they really like.

If there is a reservoir near your house or you live in a high-rise building with a basement, then, most likely, little annoying uninvited guests will soon appear in your house . To make sure that there are insects in these places, it is enough to make noise in the basement, and throw a small stone into the reservoir. Mosquitoes will immediately react to this kind of interference in their lives.

Prophylaxis

No one has yet been able to completely and irrevocably get rid of mosquitoes. But if you adhere to several rules, carry out preventive measures, you can reduce the possibility of their getting inside the room several times.

  • If you have been near the habitat of mosquitoes for a long time, for example, near a pond or in the forest, when you come home, shake your clothes out on the street or on the balcony.
  • If you have pets, bathe or at least comb them out after walking.
  • Close windows and doors tightly. In the event that there are gaps in the window or doorway, even small ones, seal them up. To do this, you can use sticky tape or a special sealant.
  • Be sure to install mosquito nets on the windows, and the smaller the mesh size, the better.
  • You can also resort to various traditional methods of preventing mosquitoes in the house. Some smells scare them away. So, elderberry, walnuts and pine nuts are a scourge for insects. Spread the branches of these plants in places through which insects can enter the house. Their smell will not only prevent mosquitoes from entering the house, but also poison those who have already settled in it.
  • Experts say that some houseplants can repel insects. For example, a mosquito will never fly into a house if geraniums, citrus trees and tomatoes are growing there. Smells of lemon and clove are considered the most unacceptable for the insect. If you don't have a lemon tree, you can cut the fruit into slices, insert a few carnation flowers into each and spread it out on the windows.
  • You can get rid of mosquitoes with essential oils: cedar, essential and clove.
  • If you have the opportunity, disinfect the basement with the onset of cold weather. And in general, you need to make sure that it is not too wet.
  • When taking preventive measures, pay maximum attention to disinfection and treatment of the bathroom, which is so popular with mosquitoes.
  • If you live in a private house, do general cleaning more often. In the attic, you can lay out special mosquito tablets and the same plant branches that insects do not like.
