Starting repair work in an apartment or a private house, any owner wants to add some zest to the interior. Today, matte paint for all kinds of surfaces is in great demand, which, when combined with other decorative materials, allows you to embody the most daring design ideas.

Positive and negative sides of matte paints

Matt paints are used in the interior no less often than glossy ones. It is impossible to say which of them is better in composition, since each is intended for the embodiment of certain decorative functions. However, it can be noted a number of advantages of matte formulations:

  • saturated color;
  • good coating density, due to which the previous layer can be easily painted over with 2-3 new layers;

  • no glare from artificial and daylight;
  • a rough structure that allows you to hide small visual flaws in walls and ceiling structures;
  • in tandem with satin planes, it allows you to add volume to the room.

Among the negative aspects of matte paints, it is worth highlighting:

  • dust quickly accumulates on a rough surface;
  • requires careful daily care with the use of specialized products;
  • any flaws are clearly visible on the finished coating: scuffs, scratches.

Features of paints and varnishes

There are 7 main paints and varnishes for interior interior decoration, which in the finished form are a matte surface.

  • Water based paints … Used for processing ceiling and wall surfaces made of plasterboard and mineral raw materials. The main advantages of this type of paints: reasonable price, fast drying.
  • Mineral paints . Slaked lime or brick is used as their basis. The structure is similar to whitewash, therefore mineral paints are mainly used as ceiling coatings. The price is affordable, but the solution does not tolerate moisture and is washed off with plain water.

  • Silicate paints … In composition, they are similar to the previous type of paintwork, but they are based on liquid glass. Due to this, silicate paints have an increased moisture resistance coefficient.
  • PVA paints . They are based on a polyvinyl acetate emulsion. Such compounds are used to treat walls and ceilings in warm, dry rooms. After the solution dries, a homogeneous vapor-permeable film appears on the plane.

  • Acrylic paints . Manufactured from polymeric acrylic resins. They are moisture resistant and have good abrasion resistance. They are used for painting surfaces made of different materials: metal, drywall, wood, brick, concrete.
  • Latex paints . Made from acrylic resins and artificial latex. They have high coefficients of moisture resistance, can be used for painting bathrooms, toilets, and other rooms where moisture accumulates.

Silicone paints . The most expensive of all of the above paints and varnishes. Silicone resins are used for their production. The paints are durable, elastic, moisture resistant, capable of repelling dirt, therefore they are often used for the bathroom, for the kitchen, as well as other spaces with a high level of moisture.

All described compositions dry quickly, almost odorless, are environmentally friendly (do not contain toxic substances).

For painting small parts, small surfaces and plastic elements, it is recommended to use spray paints in cans. They contain a solvent which makes the top layer of the surface softer and thus provides good adhesion.

Where to apply

Matte paint is ideal for areas that are often used: public institutions (hospitals, offices, cafes, shops, classrooms of educational institutions), as well as for living spaces (bedrooms, hallways, nurseries). Matt paint is best used in cases where the condition of the surface to be coated is far from ideal (especially important for room doors, walls, ceilings). Due to the ability of matte paint to diffuse light falling on the painted surface, you can easily hide all flaws and irregularities.

Matte paints are used by designers when creating the interior of apartments much more often than glossy ones. They are look elegant, suitable for any premises , including for a spacious, well-lit living room.

Standard matte paints of the middle price category have a low threshold of resistance to abrasion, therefore, expensive coating options should be chosen for rooms with high pollution.

Surface preparation for painting

Before applying paint to the surface, it is necessary to eliminate visual defects.

  1. If there are obvious damages on the surface and a very noticeable curvature of geometric proportions, it is necessary to level the surface with a starting putty, the layer thickness of which should be at least 30 mm.
  2. Cracks and dents can be hidden with a finishing filler, which must be applied evenly in a thin layer over the entire surface.
  3. When all surface leveling work is completed, small roughness can be removed with fine-grained emery paper.

Before using the putty on mineral materials, the latter must be primed to close the pores and ensure good adhesion.

Base paint or earth can be used as a primer.

The primer will protect the surface from dust, improve adhesion, do not require the application of several layers, will ensure uniform absorption of the paint, which means uniformity of color and a long service life of the applied coating.

Stages of staining

The application of matte paint coatings by technology does not differ from the work with other types of paints. Surface painting can be done manually - with a wide brush or paint roller, as well as using mechanical means - a compressor or a spray gun.

Surfaces that do not need to be painted must be covered with plastic, newspapers or masking tape.

First of all, you need to paint hard-to-reach places. Then walk in a circle, starting at the far corner of the room.

It is better to cover openings for interior doors and windows using a narrow brush. In order not to spoil the glass, it must be sealed with paper tape or covered with a solution of laundry soap.

Large surfaces (ceilings, walls) are best painted with a velvety roller on a long handle.

After finishing painting work, you must immediately wash your hands and painting tools in warm water with a cleaning agent .… Any type of matte paint (deep matt, semi-matte) in all colors (black, red, blue, white, gray) sprayed or applied with a brush is highly washable until it is dry.
